Sculpture As a Staple of Classic Art in Historic Greece

The Archaic Greeks developed the very first freestanding statuary, an impressive achievement as most sculptures up until then had been reliefs cut into walls and pillars. Kouros figures, sculptures of adolescent, good-looking male or female (kore) Greeks, made up the majority of the sculptures. The kouroi, regarded by the Greeks to portray beauty, had one foot stretched out of (ornamentation and wall waterfalls) a strict forward-facing posture and the male figurines were always undressed, with a strong, powerful build. In around 650 BC, the varieties of the kouroi became life-sized. The Archaic period was an amazing point of transformation for the Greeks as they extended into new forms of government, created novel expressions of art, and gained knowledge of the people and cultures outside of Greece. But in spite of the issues, the Greek civilization continued to progress, unabated.
